The 2025 standout WorldSSP replacement rider will take up the independent Ducati team’s sole seat

The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s 2026 grid takes another step towards completion as the Italy-based Motocorsa Racing squad put pen to paper and will have Italian 21-year-old rider Alberto Surra sit atop their Ducati machinery next season. Surra made waves in the World Supersport field last season as he arrived at the paddock with just four rounds to go to fill in for the injured Aldi Mahendra. The Italian finished on the podium in his first-ever race in the category at Magny-Cours’ Race 1, and other than a Race 2 retirement, he didn’t miss the top ten a single time in his eight-race showing, which lasted for the rest of the season from Magny-Cours onwards.

Before that, the #76 made his Moto3 Italian Championship debut at 16, where he landed back-to-back second-place finishes before a 2021 jump to Moto3, where he competed through the 2022 season. From 2023 onward, he competed concurrently in the Moto2 European Championship and Moto2, making wildcard appearances. He enjoyed considerable success in the Moto2 European Championship, finishing third in three consecutive seasons, with three wins and 14 podiums from 2023 to 2025. Surra is now set to join the Motocorsa Racing outfit for his WorldSBK debut, leaving fans eager to see the talented young prospect on track.

On his new WorldSBK opportunity, Surra said: “I’m very happy about this opportunity that I was given by team Motocorsa Racing and Lorenzo Mauri. I come from a three years’ experience in Moto2 and some races in the Supersport World Championship, and I’m glad we get to take this big step with a team that will help me grow within this category. I’m sure we will achieve plenty of success and we will have a season of growth. I’m very very happy and I cannot wait to begin!”
